Pilibhit, March 9: A high-speed double-decker bus overturned late Sunday night in Pilibhit district, Uttar Pradesh, injuring over 24 workers on board.
The bus was transporting around 50 laborers from Gurugram to Lakhimpur. As it approached the highway near the village of Kaich in the Gajraula police jurisdiction, the driver lost control. The speeding bus veered off the road and flipped over, causing chaos among the passengers, with many trapped inside.
Upon hearing the cries for help from the stranded workers, nearby villagers rushed to the scene and promptly notified the police. The Gajraula police arrived quickly and, with the aid of a crane, managed to right the overturned bus and rescue the injured passengers. Thanks to the combined efforts of the police and locals, all victims were safely extracted.
Local residents praised the police for their swift response and rescue operations. The injured workers were immediately transported to Pilibhit Medical College via ambulances and police vehicles, where they are currently receiving treatment. Medical professionals report that while some victims sustained serious injuries, many others are in stable condition.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was caused by the bus’s excessive speed and the driver’s loss of control. The police are conducting an inquiry into the incident and have begun questioning the driver. Authorities have assured that all possible assistance will be provided to the injured. Following the accident, traffic on the highway was temporarily disrupted but has since been restored by the police.
Police officials stated that a team has been formed to investigate the accident further. They are also reviewing nearby CCTV footage. Initial findings indicate that driver fatigue may have contributed to the incident.
