Kolkata, July 19: The Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) has officially announced the merger of 20 Members of Parliament from West Bengal into its ranks.
Following the acceptance of their merger, these MPs are now formally part of the NCPI. The party asserts that the inclusion of these leaders will strengthen its commitment to public service and nation-building.
The list released by the NCPI includes notable names such as Sudip Bandopadhyay, Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Shatabdi Roy, Mala Roy, Mithali Bag, Partha Bhowmik, Dipak Dev, Dr. Sharmila Sarkar, Sayani Ghosh, Bapi Haldar, Kalipod Saren Kherwal, Jagdish Chandra Barma Basunia, Prasun Banerjee, Arup Chakraborty, Asit Kumar Mal, Yusuf Pathan, June Maliya, Khalilur Rahman, Mohammad Abu Taher Khan, and Rachna Banerjee.
In its statement, the party emphasized that the addition of these MPs will invigorate its spirit of public service. Furthermore, it believes that this collective effort will significantly contribute to the country’s development and nation-building process.
It is noteworthy that the NCPI, a regional political party, gained national attention in June 2026 when 20 rebel MPs from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) announced their merger with the party. These MPs aimed to politically align themselves with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
This merger of 20 MPs is seen as a significant event in both West Bengal and national politics. Political analysts believe that this development could have repercussions for state and national political dynamics in the future.
