Mumbai, April 20: Legendary stars often open their treasure troves of memories, offering audiences not just stories but a glimpse into the beauty of their era. This is especially true for the enchanting tales of the 1970s. Bollywood icon Zeenat Aman recently took to Instagram to reminisce about her famous song “Dum Maro Dum,” declaring late singer Asha Bhosle as the catalyst for her success. She also shared an amusing anecdote about how RD Burman changed the decision regarding the duet.
Zeenat Aman posted a short clip of “Dum Maro Dum” on Instagram. The video showcases her vintage style, carefree attitude, and captivating expressions. In it, her character Janice, also known as Jasbir, appears lost in a different world.
In her post, Zeenat Aman expressed, “I wish I could be 19 again when I was just starting out, eager to try something new and on the brink of my big break.”
With a humorous touch, she added, “Oh my God. Is this the effect of the years? The memories of shooting ‘Dum Maro Dum’ have become a hazy yet beautiful recollection in my mind. I’ve shared the story of this song’s shoot before, so this post is in memory of Asha Bhosle. As I mentioned in my previous post, she provided the music for my success, and it all began with this song.”
Zeenat also shared an interesting tidbit in her caption. She revealed, “Initially, ‘Dum Maro Dum’ was planned as a duet to be sung by Asha Ji’s elder sister Lata Mangeshkar and the powerful singer Usha Uthup. However, RD Burman had a different vision for the song. He believed that Asha Ji’s unique voice would be perfect for it.”
At the end of her post, Zeenat encouraged fans to enjoy the clip and share their own memories of “Dum Maro Dum” in the comments. “I love reading about your experiences and your connection to my films. I’m sure many of you have dressed up like Janice/Jasbir at some Bollywood-themed party,” she said.
“Dum Maro Dum” is a popular song from the 1971 film “Hare Rama Hare Krishna,” featuring Dev Anand and Zeenat Aman in lead roles. The song, particularly filmed on Zeenat Aman, has become one of the most memorable moments of her career. Asha Bhosle lent her voice to the track, while RD Burman composed the music and Anand Bakshi penned the lyrics.
