YSR Congress Criticizes TDP Government for Failing Housing Projects in Andhra Pradesh

Tadapalli, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Ambati Murli Krishna, the YSR Congress Party coordinator for the Ponnur constituency, criticized the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government on Sunday for not completing housing projects initiated during Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s administration. He stated that the government should finish constructing homes for the poor before taking credit for them.

Krishna highlighted that under Jagan’s leadership, the government allocated land for housing to 3.12 million families and established 17,005 YSR Jagananna colonies. He noted that while 2,280,358 homes were approved, over 900,000 have been completed.

He further alleged that the current government has not built a single new house in the past two and a half years, leaving nearly 1.1 million houses at various stages of incomplete construction. Krishna accused the TDP of filing over 1,000 court cases to block the distribution of land leases for housing. He pointed out that Jagan had to approach the Supreme Court to secure permission for these leases.

The YSR Congress leader also claimed that the government had filed a lawsuit concerning leases for 50,000 poor families in Amaravati, which were later canceled, depriving these families of housing.

Krishna questioned why the issue of drought was not raised during a meeting attended by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, especially since 388 out of 688 mandals in the state have been declared drought-affected, including the Kuppam mandal, which is part of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu‘s constituency. He demanded clarity on the minimum support prices for crops like rice, cotton, maize, and various types of pulses.

In response to Minister Nadendla Manohar’s call for an investigation into alleged irregularities in housing, Krishna stated that the YSR Congress is open to any inquiry. He also challenged the government to investigate the rice issue in Kakinada.

Krishna emphasized that the YSR Congress is not opposing local body elections but seeks accurate voter lists that clarify issues concerning deceased and fraudulent voters. He expressed concern that farmers are struggling to receive fair prices and that there is a decline in payments for welfare schemes, putting pressure on rural economies that need government attention.
