New Delhi, March 3: Udaybhanu Chib, the President of the Youth Congress, is set to be released from jail on Tuesday in connection with the AI Summit protest case. The Patiala House Court directed the Delhi government on Monday to complete the verification of the bail security and submit it to the court by 2 PM on Tuesday.
Additionally, the court has extended Udaybhanu Chib’s judicial custody until Tuesday. Previously, the Delhi High Court lifted the stay imposed by the session court on his bail, ordering his release.
The High Court’s decision halted the ongoing proceedings against him, as Justice Saurabh Banerjee’s bench issued a stay on the session court’s order. During the hearing, the High Court suspended the session court’s directive and issued a notice to the Delhi police, seeking a detailed response.
Senior lawyer Siddharth Luthra represented Udaybhanu Chib in court. He argued that the trial court’s order was not issued properly, claiming it was unilateral and that the police still held him in custody. The court questioned Luthra about the urgency of the matter, to which he responded that it pertains to liberty.
Earlier, the Patiala House Court granted him conditional bail. The duty magistrate set bail at ₹50,000, stating that the crime branch failed to provide sufficient reasons for extending the remand. The court ordered Udaybhanu Chib to surrender his passport and electronic devices to the court.
Following the court’s ruling, the Youth Congress took to the social media platform ‘X’ to announce, “Satyamev Jayate. Udaybhanu Chib has been granted bail. While the nation slept, the judiciary thwarted every conspiracy of the Delhi Crime Branch. The police had sought a seven-day remand extension in front of the duty magistrate, which was denied by the judiciary, leading to Udaybhanu Chib’s release on bail.”
