Aizawl, March 7: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan addressed the 20th convocation ceremony of Mizoram University on Saturday. He congratulated the graduating students and urged them to play a significant role in building a ‘Developed India’ by 2047.
Highlighting the natural beauty of the university campus, the Vice President noted that Mizoram University is among the most beautiful campuses, symbolizing what can be achieved when education is based on peace and purpose.
Radhakrishnan spoke about the transformations in the Northeast over the past decade. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, this region has been positioned at the center of India’s development. He mentioned improved connectivity, including the recently inaugurated Bairabi-Sairang railway line, and initiatives like Udaan and PM-DIVINE, which are accelerating development and connecting the local populace to new opportunities.
Referring to the vision of a ‘Developed India’ by 2047, the Vice President encouraged youth to focus on creating opportunities rather than merely seeking jobs. He emphasized the immense potential of the Northeast in sectors such as tourism, bamboo-based industries, organic farming, handicrafts, and digital services.
He expressed concern about the rising issue of substance abuse among youth. Radhakrishnan called on young people to stay away from drugs and lead disciplined, purposeful lives. He advised students to use technology and social media responsibly, urging them to become masters of technology rather than its slaves.
The Vice President praised Mizoram’s rich natural heritage and high literacy rate. He commended the state’s strong tribal traditions and environmental consciousness. He encouraged the youth to take a leading role in promoting environmental sustainability, highlighting the university’s reliance on solar energy.
