Yashveer Singh Celebrates First International Medal with Bronze at Commonwealth Games 2026

Glasgow, August 1: Yashveer Singh made headlines at the Commonwealth Games 2026 by clinching a bronze medal in javelin throw with an impressive throw of 85.41 meters. This achievement marks his best performance to date. Expressing his joy over winning his first international medal, Yashveer shared his excitement during a press interaction.

“This is my first international medal, and I am extremely happy. My entire family has supported me throughout this journey. Neeraj Chopra also provided significant encouragement during the competition,” Yashveer stated.

He recounted the challenges he faced, noting, “Initially, my throws were not going well, and one of my attempts was around 81.33 meters. I realized that the race for the bronze was hovering around 82 meters. I thought to myself, I have thrown beyond 82 meters in practice, so I can do better. Before my final throw, I decided to give it my all, and it turned out well.”

In his second attempt, Yashveer recorded a throw of 78.55 meters, followed by a third attempt of 81.33 meters. His fifth attempt reached 76.95 meters. However, in his sixth and final attempt, he excelled with a throw of 85.41 meters, securing the bronze medal and achieving a personal best.

Neeraj Chopra also expressed his happiness over Yashveer’s success, saying, “I am thrilled that Yashveer has succeeded in winning a medal alongside me. This reminds me of the Asian Games, where both Kishore and I won medals. It feels great to be on the podium together. We always strive for our national anthem to play, and I am pleased with my own season’s best performance. My comeback is on track, and I will aim to improve in the upcoming competitions.”

On the ninth day of the Commonwealth Games 2026, India secured a total of six medals. Out of these, three medals were won in judo, with Asmita Devi and Harsh Singh delivering historic golds, while Yamini Moraya earned a silver medal. In the decathlon event, Tejaswin Shankar also brought home a bronze medal. Neeraj Chopra won silver in javelin throw, while Yashveer secured bronze.
