Tejaswin Shankar Celebrates Historic Bronze Medal Win at Commonwealth Games

Glasgow, August 1: The ninth day of the 2026 Commonwealth Games has been remarkable for India. The nation secured a total of six medals, including two golds, in a single day. In the decathlon event, Tejaswin Shankar delivered an outstanding performance, winning the bronze medal. He has now become the first Indian athlete to achieve this feat in the decathlon.

In an interview, Tejaswin expressed how special this medal is for him. He stated, “This is incredibly special for me. Winning a medal for India is a matter of pride. There is no better feeling than standing on the podium. Personally, what feels even better is that I competed wearing the Indian jersey without worrying about the results. Of course, the outcome is important. If I had finished in fourth place, perhaps not as many people would be talking to me. Now that I am third, or among the medal winners, I am receiving this recognition.”

The Indian athlete further elaborated, “Decathlon is a sport that teaches you about life. There are many ups and downs at every turn. In some events, your opponent may outperform you, while in others, you may excel. Until the last race is over, you never know what will happen. This sport teaches you to focus on one thing at a time, which is also a lesson for life: to live in the present. I believe I managed to do this better in the last 48 hours, which is why I succeeded in winning the medal.” Tejaswin dedicated his medal to his supporters and fans, achieving third place with a total of 7,976 points in one of the most challenging events of track and field.
