Mumbai, April 14: Xiaomi has quietly introduced two new smartphones on its Chinese website, the REDMI R70 5G and R70m 5G, targeting the budget segment of the 5G market.
Both models are currently labeled as “coming soon,” meaning they are not yet available for purchase. However, the listings provide a clear insight into Xiaomi’s strategy: large displays, substantial batteries, and competitive pricing.
REDMI R70
The two devices share most of their core specifications. They feature a 6.9-inch LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 720p+ resolution. While not the sharpest, this setup is adequate for everyday tasks like scrolling, messaging, and streaming.
Powering these phones is the Unisoc T8300 processor, built on a 6nm architecture, accompanied by LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. While these specs are not high-end, they align well with the expected performance at this price range.
Xiaomi offers a variety of configurations. The R70 starts with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage (priced at 1599 yuan) and goes up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The R70m skips the base variant and offers configurations up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.
The primary distinction between the two models lies in their battery capacity. The standard R70 is equipped with a 6000mAh battery, while the R70m features a slightly larger 6300mAh battery. Both models support 15W charging.
The camera setup is basic, featuring an 8MP front camera and a single 13MP rear sensor, indicating that photography is not a primary focus for these devices.
In terms of design, both phones sport a familiar aesthetic and are available in several color options, including Feather White, Starry Black, and various shades of blue and purple. Despite their larger size, they remain relatively slim for the features they offer. Both models run on Hyper OS 3, Xiaomi’s software skin based on Android 16.
Overall, the REDMI R70 and R70m appear to be straightforward budget 5G smartphones. They do not aim to be extravagant but instead focus on delivering essential features with an emphasis on battery life.
