WTO Director-General Sends Lunar New Year Greetings in Chinese

Beijing, February 17: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), extended her Lunar New Year greetings via video on the eve of the celebration. She wished everyone good health, prosperity, and success in the new year, stating in Chinese, “Happy New Year.”

Okonjo-Iweala praised the Year of the Horse, highlighting its essential qualities of enthusiasm, resilience, and progress, which are crucial in today’s global trade environment.

She noted that last year, global trade demonstrated remarkable resilience, underscoring the importance of an open, stable, and hopeful trading environment based on a multilateral trade system. The WTO requires significant reforms to adapt to the ever-changing global economy.

Okonjo-Iweala expressed gratitude to China for its strong support of the WTO and expressed hope that China’s reforms would bolster support for improvements in the multilateral trading system.
