New Delhi, October 20 (Daily Kiran): India’s hopes of reaching the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 semifinals remain alive despite suffering their third consecutive loss, this time against England by four runs in a close contest at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday.

The Indian team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, had earlier faced defeats against South Africa and Australia, after starting the tournament positively with wins over Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

With England’s victory, they became the third team to confirm a semifinal spot. The final place will now be contested between India and New Zealand.

Currently, India stands fourth on the points table, slightly ahead of New Zealand on net run rate. To qualify, India must win both of their remaining matches — against New Zealand and Bangladesh.

India’s next fixture against New Zealand is expected to be a decisive encounter that could determine their semifinal fate. Their final group-stage match will be against Bangladesh, who are virtually out of contention.

However, if India loses to New Zealand, their qualification chances will become slim. In that scenario, India will need to defeat Bangladesh by a big margin and hope that New Zealand lose their final match against England.

India’s Qualification Scenarios:

  1. India must win both upcoming matches — against New Zealand and Bangladesh.

  2. If India loses to New Zealand, they must beat Bangladesh comprehensively and hope for New Zealand’s defeat to England.

With two crucial matches remaining, the next few days will decide whether Team India can keep their semifinal dream alive in the Women’s World Cup 2025.
