Mumbai, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : The Dahi-Handi festival preparations are in full swing at the Shri Sai Datta Mitra Mandal in Mumbai. Women devotees are eagerly looking forward to participating in this vibrant celebration.
One participant shared, “We have been breaking the handi for six years now, and we are very excited about it. We wait for this day every year after the festival ends.”
She emphasized the growing support for women, stating that there is no longer a distinction between boys and girls. “People should encourage girls to pursue their dreams. If a girl wants to achieve something, she deserves support and motivation. Women are contributing significantly in every field, and we are not lagging behind in this festival either.”
Another attendee remarked, “We come here every year and have a wonderful time.”
Just days prior, Mumbai celebrated Janmashtami with great enthusiasm. Gauranga Das, director of the Govardhan Eco Village, noted that the ISKCON Chowpatty’s Shri Shri Radha Gopinath Temple has been celebrating Janmashtami for the past 40 years. “South Mumbai is a crucial area, and at least 200,000 devotees visit the temple during this festival,” he stated.
Gauranga Das added, “It is said that in Kali Yuga, the greatest spiritual practice is ‘Hari Naam Sankirtan,’ or chanting the holy names of God. When someone offers us a glass of water, we immediately say ‘thank you.’ Shouldn’t we express gratitude for the air, water, and food that God provides us? Chanting the maha mantra is our way of showing thanks.”
