Most people rely on wheat roti as their staple food, but both Ayurveda and science suggest that consuming a variety of grain-based rotis can have distinct benefits for the body.

According to Ayurveda, each grain has its own nature and properties. Some grains keep the body warm, while others strengthen digestion or provide energy. Scientific research indicates that the fiber, vitamins, minerals, and proteins found in different grains benefit various parts of the body. Therefore, incorporating a variety of rotis into your diet can lead to more balanced nutrition.

Let’s first discuss wheat roti, which is the most commonly consumed in India. Wheat naturally contains fiber, protein, and B vitamins. In North India, makki (corn) roti holds special significance, especially in winter when it is commonly paired with mustard greens. Corn is rich in carbohydrates and fiber, providing energy and improving digestion. Additionally, it contains nutrients beneficial for eye health. Ayurveda suggests that corn is a strengthening grain, and consuming it in moderation can provide excellent nutrition.
