Lucknow, March 16: BSP leader Vishwanath Pal has criticized Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for failing to advocate for Kanshiram’s Bharat Ratna during his party’s tenure. He questioned why Gandhi is now making demands when Congress is no longer in power.
In a conversation in Lucknow, Pal pointed out that during Manmohan Singh’s ten years in office, Kanshiram was not awarded the Bharat Ratna. He emphasized that when Congress was in power, their actions reflected their true character, which he claims was against the interests of the Bahujan community.
Pal stated, “Since 2014, the BJP has been in power, but prior to that, it was Congress. Both Mayawati and I have consistently demanded this recognition. Why didn’t Congress award the Bharat Ratna before 2014? Now that they are out of power, why the theatrics?”
With the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections approaching, Pal commented on the political maneuvering of the SP and Congress regarding Kanshiram. He dismissed their demands for the Bharat Ratna as mere drama, highlighting their sudden enthusiasm for Kanshiram after having previously obstructed his legacy.
He recalled a significant rally held by Kanshiram at the Laxman Mela Ground in Lucknow, where he declared Mayawati as his sole disciple, capable of carrying forward his ideology and the Bahujan movement. Pal questioned the sincerity of those now claiming to be Kanshiram’s fans, suggesting that their motives are politically selfish.
Pal concluded by criticizing the SP’s inability to accept the district named after Kanshiram in Aligarh, questioning how they can genuinely uphold his ideology while engaging in such political theatrics.
