
Kolkata, March 19: The West Bengal government has reassigned new responsibilities to 19 IPS officers who were removed from their positions by the Election Commission. A senior official from the state secretariat, ‘Nabanna’, confirmed the appointments on Wednesday.
The state government issued a directive, adhering to the Election Commission’s condition that no officer can be reinstated to any position related to the assembly elections.
Indira Mukherjee has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as Special Superintendent (SS), having previously served as Deputy Commissioner (Central) of Kolkata Police.
Rajeev Mishra, who was removed from the position of Additional Director General (ADG) of South Bengal, has now been appointed as ADG (Reform and Coordination).
Praveen Kumar Tripathi has been designated as Inspector General (IG) of the State Police’s Special Task Force (STF). He was formerly the Police Commissioner of Barrackpore.
Sunil Kumar Chaudhary, the former Police Commissioner of Asansol-Durgapur, has been reassigned to the same role.
Sukesh Kumar Jain, who was removed from the IG position in North Bengal, has been appointed as IG of the State Police’s Intelligence Bureau (IB). Akash Magharia, previously the Police Commissioner of Howrah, and Koteswar Rao, former Police Commissioner of Chandannagar, have both been appointed as Deputy Inspector Generals (DIG) in the Intelligence Bureau.
Meanwhile, six dismissed officers have been appointed as Special Superintendents in the Intelligence Bureau. They include Jobi Thomas (former SP of Islampur), Abhijit Banerjee (former SP of Malda), Amandeep (former SP of Birbhum), Kamanshish Sen (former SP of Hooghly-Rural), Dhritiman Sarkar (former SP of Murshidabad), and Hussain Mehdi Rahman (former SP of Jangipur).
Dismissed Superintendents Parijat Biswas (East Midnapore), Bishop Sarkar (Diamond Harbour), Sandeep Karra (Cooch Behar), Arish Bilal (Bashirhat), and Palash Chandra Dhali (West Midnapore) have been appointed as Superintendents in the State Police STF.
Additionally, Priyabrata Roy, the former SP of Barasat, has been appointed as Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Traffic Department in Kolkata Police. Lakshmi Narayan Meena, currently serving as ADG (Jail), has been given additional charge of ADG (Record Bureau).
