Dehradun, March 18: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his delight on Wednesday over two significant decisions made by the Central Cabinet, extending his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These decisions are being hailed as historic for the industrial development of mountainous states and the nation.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, CM Dhami highlighted the Small Hydro Power (SHP) development scheme. The Central Cabinet has approved this initiative for the financial years 2026-27 to 2030-31, with a total cost of ₹2,584.60 crores. The plan aims to establish small hydroelectric projects with a capacity of approximately 1,500 megawatts (ranging from 1 to 25 megawatts). This initiative is expected to be particularly beneficial for mountainous regions such as Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh, and the northeastern states.
Dhami noted, “This scheme will be extremely significant for a mountainous state like Uttarakhand. This decision will not only strengthen self-reliance in the energy sector but also provide new momentum for sustainable and balanced development.” He extended heartfelt thanks to PM Modi on behalf of the people of the state.
Given Uttarakhand’s abundance of rivers and water resources, small hydro projects will enhance local electricity production, create jobs in rural areas, and ensure energy security while promoting environmental conservation. The Chief Minister described this as a visionary initiative that will help meet the state’s electricity needs.
In another post, CM Dhami praised the Bharat Industrial Development Scheme (BHAVYA). The Central Cabinet has approved this plan, which involves developing 100 plug-and-play industrial parks across the country at a cost of ₹33,660 crores. These parks will provide investors with ready infrastructure, electricity, water, roads, and other facilities, injecting new energy into the manufacturing sector.
Dhami remarked, “This ambitious scheme is a historic initiative towards developing world-class industrial infrastructure. It will attract investment, create extensive employment opportunities, and accelerate balanced regional development.” He emphasized that this initiative strengthens the resolve of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, playing a crucial role in making India a global industrial hub.
