Kolkata, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : Kolkata’s Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, announced on social media that the state’s three-day cleanliness and dengue prevention campaign has been successfully completed. This initiative, known as the ‘Cleanliness Commitment Campaign,’ was organized by the Department of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs.
The campaign spanned 22 districts and involved cleaning efforts in 128 municipalities across over 1,600 wards. Adhikari shared impressive statistics, revealing that officials cleaned 6,065 blocked drains and removed waste from 1,608 locations. Additionally, they cleared 4,511 spots where garbage had accumulated along roadsides and targeted 27,378 areas to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
The initiative also focused on cleaning important institutions, including markets, schools, government offices, and hospitals. Cleaning efforts took place in 1,106 markets and haats, 1,304 school and college campuses, 544 government office premises, and 315 hospital grounds.
To raise awareness, over 35,000 pieces of IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) material were distributed. The campaign saw active participation from 118 NGOs and civil society organizations. Adhikari emphasized that maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings is essential but urged everyone to commit to keeping their neighborhoods clean.
He called for a collective movement, stating, “Let’s make this cleanliness campaign a public movement to keep ourselves healthy and our environment clean. Each of us is a stakeholder in the fight for a clean Bengal. Our commitment is a waste-free West Bengal and a united front against dengue. Stay clean, stay healthy. Let’s uphold the pride of West Bengal. The commitment to cleanliness should be our shared responsibility.”
