Weapons Seized from Minor Ahead of Bengal Assembly Elections

Kolkata, April 9: Kolkata’s Special Task Force made a significant discovery on Wednesday, apprehending a minor from Bihar who was found in possession of five firearms on Strand Road in central Kolkata. Among the seized weapons were two 7mm pistols, along with 40 cartridges. The 17-year-old suspect hails from Nalanda district in Bihar.

The police are investigating why the minor was carrying these firearms. The operation was initiated based on intelligence received by the Special Task Force. Upon receiving the tip-off, the team conducted a raid in the Strand Road area and intercepted the teenager near a public toilet on the roadside.

During the search, a total of five weapons were recovered, including three country-made firearms and two 7mm pistols, along with four magazines. The police also found 18 cartridges of 8mm and 22 cartridges of 7.65mm caliber. Authorities have already confiscated the weapons and ammunition.

According to a police officer, after the weapons were seized, the minor was interrogated about their origin. However, he failed to provide satisfactory answers. The Special Task Force is currently working to gather more information regarding this incident.

It is noteworthy that the connection between recovered weapons and Bihar has been established in previous cases. The police have previously raided an illegal arms manufacturing factory in Bihar. Investigations into the source of the weapons seized on Wednesday have already commenced.

Additionally, on Sunday, during preparations for the assembly elections, a significant amount of cash was recovered from a car in the Tollygunge area of South Kolkata. On Tuesday, police seized over 5.7 million rupees during four separate incidents at checkpoints. This time, weapons were also recovered from Kolkata’s Strand Road.

Authorities are probing the intended purpose of these weapons and whether there were plans to transfer them to someone else.
