Kolkata, March 1: The final voter list under the special intensive revision in West Bengal has been released. According to the data, approximately 47,000 voter names have been removed from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s assembly constituency, Bhawanipur. In contrast, around 11,000 names have been cut from the constituency of the Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, in Nandigram.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s office in West Bengal reported that a total of 47,111 names were removed from the final voter list in Bhawanipur, where Mamata Banerjee serves as the elected representative. Similarly, in the Nandigram assembly constituency of East Midnapore district, 10,994 names were deleted from the final voter list, where the opposition leader is also an elected member.
In Bhawanipur, 14,154 voter documents are currently under judicial review, indicating that more names may be removed from this area once the judicial process concludes. In Nandigram, the number of voters with documents under judicial scrutiny stands at 8,819.
As of this report, there has been no response from the Trinamool Congress regarding the significant number of voters removed in Bhawanipur. However, Adhikari stated that the removal of such a large number of voter names has created a state of panic for the Chief Minister.
Adhikari remarked, “There are now insufficient voters in Bhawanipur to ensure the Chief Minister’s victory in the upcoming assembly elections.” It is worth noting that in the 2021 assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee contested from Nandigram but lost to Adhikari. She later secured her position as Chief Minister by winning a by-election in Bhawanipur.
