Vincent Kompany Draws Inspiration from French Legend Marcel Desailly

Munich, February 27: Bayern Munich is a club steeped in history, known for its remarkable success and legendary players. Vincent Kompany, the current coach, has openly shared his admiration for a French football icon who played a pivotal role in France’s 1998 World Cup victory. This legend is not Marcus Thuram’s father.

“Marcel Desailly was my idol. You might recognize him from a legend card on FIFA. He was a formidable defender and a great example for me,” Kompany stated, as reported by the X account @iMiaSanMia.

Desailly achieved significant success during his career, winning two Champions League titles—one with Marseille in 1993 and another with AC Milan in 1994. He also secured two major international trophies: the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 with France.

Desailly made his debut in the FIFA video game series as part of the legends roster in FIFA 15 and continues to be a popular player in the latest installment, now known as EA FC (currently FC26). Kompany, too, made his debut in FC 24 as part of the new “Heroes” roster, featuring players regarded as legends who are also memorable figures in football history.
