Vijay Sethupathis Pocket Novel Welcomes G.V. Prakash as Music Director
G.V. Prakash Kumar confirmed as music director for Vijay Sethupathis upcoming film Pocket Novel, replacing Ilaiyaraaja.

Chennai, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : The highly anticipated film “Pocket Novel,” starring Vijay Sethupathi, has made headlines with a significant announcement from its producers. On Friday, they officially confirmed that three-time National Award-winning composer G.V. Prakash Kumar will be the music director for the film.
The production house TDKF shared the news on their social media platforms, stating, “It is official that G.V. Prakash has joined the film ‘Pocket Novel.'” Initially, the renowned composer Ilaiyaraaja was announced as the music director. However, rumors circulated earlier this month suggesting that Ilaiyaraaja had exited the project. These speculations gained traction when the filmmakers announced the completion of the film’s shooting on October 9, which notably did not include Ilaiyaraaja’s name in the list of technicians.
While discussions hinted at G.V. Prakash stepping in for Ilaiyaraaja, Friday’s announcement marked the first official confirmation of this change.
Filming for “Pocket Novel” wrapped up about 20 days ago. The filmmakers shared this milestone through a video showcasing behind-the-scenes clips from various shooting days.
Earlier this month, the film’s leading actress, Malavika Mohanan, expressed her gratitude to the entire team in a heartfelt post. On her Instagram page, she wrote, “Some films feel like they create a little world of their own, and I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of this one.”
She emphasized that the people involved in the filmmaking process are far more important than the process itself. “You spend months with the entire team, sharing long hours together, getting to know each other, eating together, talking for hours, and experiencing various emotions together. Before you know it, they become your ‘home away from home,'” she added.
Thanking Vijay Sethupathi, she remarked, “Thank you for being the most caring and generous co-actor. After this journey with you, I cannot imagine being part of this process with anyone else. You have always encouraged me and created an environment where I could work freely and do things right, no matter how long it took or how difficult it was.”
Despite having worked together on two films, “Petta” and “Master,” she noted they had never shared the screen until now, making this opportunity highly anticipated. “Honestly, this experience has been truly beautiful,” she said.
She also praised director Thyagarajan Kumararaja, stating, “TK, you are truly an amazing person. Your perspective on people and the world is unique. Working with you has been a lifelong experience, and more importantly, I have had the chance to know you as a person and a friend. As a filmmaker, you blend strength and kindness beautifully.”
In her closing remarks, she thanked Ezhilmathi SD for being a lovely support throughout the journey, noting their shared tastes in clothing and textiles made their time together even more enjoyable. “For me, ‘Pocket Novel’ is much more than just a film. See you in theaters soon.”
