New Delhi, August 9: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga‘ campaign by hoisting the national flag at the Vijayapuram flag point on Sunday, commemorating August Kranti Diwas, which marks the 1942 Quit India Movement. During this event, he also visited Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The Vice President shared photos from his visit on the social media platform X, stating that he toured significant historical sites, including the building where Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose stayed during his historic visit to the Andaman Islands in December 1943. His itinerary included visits to a church, soldiers’ barracks, the gunpoint area, and the Smritika Museum, where he learned about the island’s rich history and proposed plans for its future development.
Earlier, addressing attendees at a state ceremony and Tiranga music program held at the DBRAT auditorium, the Vice President emphasized that there could be no more fitting location to launch this campaign than these historic islands, deeply connected to India’s freedom struggle and the history of the tricolor.
Recalling the immortal words of the great Tamil poet Subramania Bharati, C.P. Radhakrishnan remarked that the ‘Mani Kodi’ festival celebrated by Bharati symbolizes the eternal courage of the Indian spirit and the glory of the flag of Mother India. He stated that the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga‘ campaign unites all citizens under one national flag, one motherland, and a shared future.
Honoring the sacrifices of freedom fighters who faced the brutal Kala Pani, the Vice President noted that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are not just a geographical part of India but a sacred land of sacrifices. He paid heartfelt tribute to the brave Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and countless other patriots who suffered in Cellular Jail, stating that their courage, patriotism, and sacrifices will continue to inspire generations.
The Vice President reminded everyone that on August 8, 1942, Mahatma Gandhi’s call for ‘Do or Die’ awakened millions of Indians and gave decisive momentum to the freedom struggle. He also highlighted the unique place of the islands in the history of the tricolor, recalling that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose hoisted the Indian national flag here on December 30, 1943, marking a historic moment in India’s freedom struggle.
