Uttarkashi, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : The administration in Uttarkashi is on high alert as heavy rainfall and ongoing snowfall in the higher Himalayan regions pose significant challenges. District Magistrate Prashant Arya conducted an extensive review at the Smart Control Room on Sunday, assessing the situation and directing all relevant departments to remain vigilant around the clock.
He emphasized the importance of keeping roadways operational and instructed officials to promptly clear any routes blocked by landslides or debris. During his review, Arya examined reports from various tehsils regarding rainfall, landslides, and road conditions, urging officials to be prepared for any emergencies.
Using live CCTV feeds from the Smart Control Room, he monitored the conditions at Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines while checking on arrangements related to the Char Dham Yatra. Special instructions were given regarding the safety of trekkers in the high Himalayan areas. Arya requested that officials maintain constant communication with trekkers and provide timely information on safe locations based on weather conditions.
He also stressed the need for all necessary resources to be ready for immediate rescue operations in case of unforeseen incidents. The District Magistrate instructed officials from the National Highway, BRO, Public Works Department, and PMGSY to ensure machinery and manpower are fully prepared for quick action to restore traffic if roads become blocked.
Additionally, the administration is taking special precautions regarding the Char Dham Yatra. Due to the continuous rainfall and snowfall at higher altitudes, the pilgrimage has been temporarily halted. Arya directed that arrangements be made for the safe return of pilgrims who have completed their visits and wish to head back. He also urged the dissemination of updated weather information to pilgrims and the provision of safe accommodations as needed.
Present during the inspection were Additional District Magistrate Mukta Mishra, DFO Jivan Mohan Dagaade, Deputy Director of Gangotri National Park Mayank Garg, SDRF’s Jagdamba Prasad, and officials from various departments, including the Army and NDRF.
