Raebareli, April 1: The Uttar Pradesh Police showcased a remarkable example of swift action and coordination by saving the life of an 18-year-old in Raebareli. A distressing post on social media indicated that the young man might attempt suicide, prompting the police to act quickly and ultimately save his life. This incident highlights the growing role of technology and law enforcement agencies in preventing tragic events.
According to officials, a video related to suicide was posted on Instagram, triggering an alert through the ‘Meta Alert System’ at the police headquarters. This system is designed to identify potentially harmful or distressing content. It promptly notified the authorities, allowing them to take immediate action.
Upon receiving the alert, the Raebareli police sprang into action. Within just 12 minutes, they traced the young man’s location and arrived at his home in the area of the ‘Mill Area’ police station. When the officers reached the scene, the young man was in a critical condition. He had ingested a toxic substance due to severe mental distress stemming from a dispute in his romantic relationship.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the police officers rushed him to a nearby hospital, where timely medical intervention saved his life. Officials stated that any delay could have resulted in a fatal outcome. This swift action by the police not only averted a major tragedy but also spared a family from deep shock and sorrow.
Speaking about the incident, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sanjeev Kumar Sinha mentioned that on March 29, the young man sent a farewell message to his girlfriend and posted a photo of rat poison on social media. The police received this information through Meta. Action was taken within minutes, leading to his rescue. This achievement underscores the importance of parental support and the need to avoid taking drastic steps in difficult times.
Officials emphasized that such cases demonstrate the importance of timely intervention, raising awareness in society, and the responsible use of technology. They urged individuals experiencing mental distress to seek help rather than resorting to drastic measures and to communicate with family members or professionals.
This is not an isolated incident where timely intervention based on social media alerts has helped save a life. Earlier, on January 22, the Delhi Police’s social media control room acted swiftly to rescue a 19-year-old who reportedly intended to commit suicide at a railway station.
