Uttar Pradesh Minister Orders Swift Resolution of Prepaid Smart Meter Complaints

Kanpur, May 6: Uttar Pradesh’s Higher Education Minister and Kanpur’s in-charge minister, Yogendra Upadhyay, held a review meeting on development projects and law enforcement on Wednesday. He issued strict directives to officials, emphasizing that negligence in public services will not be tolerated at any level, and all departments must deliver results within the specified timeframe.

During the review meeting held at the newly constructed auditorium in Saraiya Ghat, the minister took a firm stance on the electricity supply. He instructed that complaints related to prepaid smart meters must be resolved within a week. Upadhyay also mentioned that consumers should be shifted to a postpaid system as needed, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply during the summer months. Additionally, he directed the immediate replacement of faulty transformers and the establishment of local complaint resolution centers at each substation.

Taking a stringent approach towards health services, Upadhyay ordered regular monitoring of government doctors’ attendance in outpatient departments (OPDs). He made it clear that any government doctor found practicing privately would face severe consequences. While reviewing law and order, he mandated tenant verification, instructing all landlords to conduct police verifications.

Prioritizing women’s safety, he called for a strong police presence in girls’ colleges, hostels, and sensitive areas. He also directed that the Anti-Romeo Squad be made more effective. Emphasizing the swift resolution of pending investigations, Upadhyay insisted that all cases from before 2025 be prioritized, with strict actions against negligent officials. Furthermore, he mandated the verification of drone operators.

In reviewing urban development projects, he prioritized the strengthening of Mainavati Road. Upadhyay stated that all projects must be completed on time and with quality, warning that unnecessary delays will not be accepted. He highlighted that Kanpur is a major industrial and urban center in the state, urging officials to work transparently and accountably in public interest. He warned that regular monitoring of projects will be conducted, and strict actions will follow any negligence at any level.
