Grand Annakut Celebration at BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Vadodara to Feature 1,200 Dishes

The BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Vadodara is preparing for a grand Annakut celebration with 1,200 dishes, involving 300 women volunteers.

Vadodara, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : Preparations are underway for a grand Annakut celebration at the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Atladra, Vadodara, featuring an impressive array of 1,200 food items. This festive event will engage around 300 women, children, and elderly volunteers over the course of a week.

Devotee Megha Shekhawat expressed her enthusiasm, stating that women aged between 15 and 70 are actively participating in the preparations. The service will run from November 2 to November 10. She highlighted the significance of this event, drawing parallels to the Hindu festival of Govardhan Puja, where offerings are made to the deity.

BAPS saint Swami Gyanvatsal emphasized the devotion involved in preparing the offerings. He noted that the food is prepared with love and is distributed as prasadam to visitors throughout the day. “Not a single piece of food is wasted,” he affirmed.

Swami Gyanvatsal elaborated on the tradition of Annakut, which celebrates the first harvest following the rains. He explained that when the residents of Gokul brought their first harvest home, the initial offerings were made to Lord Krishna. This practice of presenting a mountain of food to the deity has been a longstanding tradition since the time of Lord Krishna.

As the festival of Diwali approaches, Swami Gyanvatsal mentioned that preparations for cleanliness are also taking place at the temple. More than 300 women are involved in readying the Annakut, which will see over 1,200 food items offered to the deity on November 10, the day of the grand celebration.
