Washington, January 30 – A US congressional advisory panel is set to hold a public hearing next month to examine India’s relations with China and the United States, and how these relationships influence the balance of power in the Indo-Pacific region, according to a notice published in the Federal Register.
The United States-China Economic and Security Review Commission announced that the hearing will take place on February 17 in Washington. The focus will be on the balance of power among India, China, and the Indo-Pacific region.
The notice states that the hearing will investigate geopolitical and military issues related to India’s ties with both China and the US. This includes tensions over disputed territories, maritime access in the Indian Ocean, and India’s role as a key power in the Indo-Pacific.
Economic and technological aspects of India-China relations will also be discussed. These cover trade, investment links, and India’s efforts toward self-reliance in critical and emerging technology sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and pharmaceutical supply chains—areas central to global economic and security competition.
Furthermore, the commission will review US policies aimed at strengthening strategic partnerships with India. The hearing will assess what India’s relationship with China means for the US economy and national security interests in the coming years.
The public hearing will be co-chaired by Commissioners Hal Brands and Jonathan N. Stever. India has emerged as an important strategic partner for the US in the Indo-Pacific, with growing defence cooperation and deeper ties in technology and supply chains.
US policymakers consider India’s choices and capabilities crucial for regional stability. The level of attention the US Congress is paying to India is evident from the topics slated for discussion. The hearing will also explore how India’s relations with China and the US might affect future power dynamics in the Indo-Pacific.
