Tehran, April 19: Iran’s Civil Aviation Authority announced on Sunday that it has approved the resumption of international flights from Mashhad International Airport in the northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi, starting Monday.
According to a report by Xinhua News Agency, the authority stated on its official website that this decision follows a previous announcement indicating that the airspace in eastern Iran has been reopened for international flights.
The statement also noted that some airports resumed operations at 7 AM local time on Saturday. However, the sale of tickets for domestic flights has not yet been permitted.
Iran had closed its airspace on February 28 following joint attacks by the United States and Israel, which halted civil aviation services across the country.
The aviation authority mentioned that as military and civilian officials complete their technical and operational preparations, flight services at the airports will gradually return to normal.
Local media reports indicate that Iran also hinted on Sunday at some “progress” in ongoing negotiations with the United States, although it cautioned that a final agreement is still far off. Currently, a two-week ceasefire is set to end on April 22.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that Tehran is pursuing diplomatic efforts while remaining fully prepared for any military confrontation. He emphasized that Iran does not trust its adversaries and is ready to respond to any escalating tensions.
In a televised address on Saturday, he noted that the recent conflict began during negotiations and accused the United States of “deception.” Ghalibaf asserted that Iran has achieved success both “on the battlefield and in diplomacy,” but warned that tensions could escalate at any moment. He reiterated that negotiations are ongoing, and preparations for necessary actions are in place.
He also stressed that while Iran seeks lasting peace, it desires reliable assurances to end the cycle of war, ceasefire, and conflict.
