Mumbai, March 20: The escalating tensions in the Middle East are beginning to impact the entire world. Following the U.S.-Israel airstrikes on Iran and subsequent retaliatory actions, the situation has intensified in the Strait of Hormuz. Attacks on energy facilities have now become a focal point of the conflict. Both sides are claiming readiness for a prolonged battle. In an exclusive interview, Professor Fouad Izadi from Tehran University shared his perspective on Iran’s position in this turmoil.
Professor Izadi stated, “We have lost a lot in this conflict. The situation is dire. Over 1,400 of our citizens have been killed. Attacks occur every hour. Hospitals, stadiums, schools, TV stations, and residential areas—nothing is spared. The attacks on oil facilities have resulted in acid rain. The entire Tehran has suffered from chemical attacks. We have no choice but to defend ourselves.”
According to Izadi, Iran sought a diplomatic solution and was prepared for it. The Omani Foreign Minister even indicated in an interview with CBS News that Iran was ready for dialogue. However, within 24 hours, attacks were launched. He emphasized that these were not U.S. strikes but rather Israeli actions, instigated by both Trump and Netanyahu.
When asked about the damage to the U.S., Izadi replied, “Iran is conducting attacks that are causing them harm. Everything Iran has done has been retaliatory. We have not targeted residential areas or schools, but we have aimed at American properties. When they moved soldiers from bases to hotels, we attacked. Some damage occurred to Gulf countries, but it was incidental, caused by falling missile debris.”
In response to questions regarding the resignation of Joe Kent, the professor noted, “He was a senior official, the head of the Counter-Terrorism Department. Even the Director of Intelligence stated in the Senate that Iran had dismantled its nuclear program back in June and is not rebuilding it. This indicates that there are people in the Trump administration who believe this is not right. Trump promised ‘America First,’ but he is prioritizing ‘Israel First.’ American soldiers are dying, Iranians are suffering, and the people of the Persian Gulf are bearing the brunt, while Netanyahu seems to be the most satisfied.”
How can Iran emerge from this challenging situation? In response, Izadi said, “The first necessity is to stop this illegal war. The second step should be for Iranian officials to ensure that this is the last time Iran is attacked. Two nuclear-armed countries should not prey on each other every few months. Under the current circumstances, Iran is focusing on strengthening its security and retaliatory strategies. All losses must be compensated.”
Regarding the air defense system, he commented, “It doesn’t always function properly. The most crucial thing is to stop this war. Iran’s $20,000 missile is taking down drones worth $4 million.”
When asked about India’s role, he remarked that the relationship is historical. “Our ties have been strong for decades. The President received a call from PM Modi, resulting in Indian ships passing through. We share cultural connections and have good economic relations. We are on the same page. These relationships should continue, and countries like India can help prevent such activities.”
On the presence of Mossad, Izadi confirmed, “Absolutely, we have Mossad agents here. The current war aims to change the Iranian government. They will fail again. These agents killed people during the January uprising and blamed the Iranian administration for it.”
