Understanding Knee Pain: Signs, Causes, and Remedies

New Delhi, April 14: In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, physical activity has significantly decreased while mental stress has increased. Many people frequently complain about knee pain and the unsettling sounds that accompany it. Prolonged sitting at a desk can lead to swelling, heaviness, and discomfort in the legs. It is crucial not to take these symptoms lightly, as they could indicate a more serious health issue down the line.

Some individuals dismiss the “cracking” sound in their knees as trivial. They often believe that dietary changes or time will resolve the issue, which is a misconception. Various factors can contribute to knee sounds, including excessive gas buildup, cartilage wear, deficiencies in calcium and vitamin D, reduced physical activity, frequent stair climbing, and maintaining the same leg position for extended periods. However, if these sounds are accompanied by pain, it is a warning sign that significant knee problems may have developed.

Ayurveda offers several remedies for knee pain and associated sounds, such as the use of Ashwagandha, Yogaraj Guggul, and Lakshadi Guggul. It is advisable to consult a healthcare professional before starting any of these treatments. Additionally, lifestyle modifications are essential. Regular walking for 15-20 minutes in the morning and evening can alleviate knee pain. Massaging the knees with sesame oil at night can also reduce swelling and discomfort, while daily massages may lessen the cracking sounds.

Getting at least 10 minutes of sunlight each day is vital. A deficiency in vitamin D can lead to knee pain and sounds. Exposing the knees to sunlight can provide relief and help replenish vitamin D levels. Including fenugreek water in your diet can also be beneficial. Consuming fenugreek water on an empty stomach each morning helps balance the body’s vata and provides pain relief.
