Uma Thurman Recalls Childhood Scare Over High Heels Purchase
Uma Thurman shares a childhood story of stealing 75 cents to buy red high heels, leading to a police encounter.

Mumbai, October 22 (Daily Kiran) : Uma Thurman recently shared a childhood anecdote that still evokes a sense of fear for her. The Hollywood actress revealed that when she was just three or four years old, she stole 75 cents from her house to buy a pair of red high heels.
Thurman recounted her experience during an appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” She explained that her family had just moved to Amherst, Massachusetts, where her father worked as a teacher. It was in this new city that she spotted the alluring red heels in a store window, igniting her desire to own them.
One afternoon, while her mother was napping, Thurman decided to take the 75 cents from the table and venture out on her own to buy the shoes. Confidently, she made her way to the store, recalling the route from memory. Upon entering, she tried on the heels and assured the shopkeeper that her mother would be arriving shortly. However, the shopkeeper grew suspicious of the small child shopping alone.
Concerned for her safety, he called the police. When the officers arrived, they questioned Thurman, who realized she didn’t even know her street name. She insisted that she could return home by herself, claiming her house was nearby, but the police were not convinced and took her into custody.
Thurman vividly remembers the fear she felt that day, believing she was about to be arrested. An officer even held her in his arms as they drove around the city, but she couldn’t recognize her surroundings.
Eventually, she spotted her mother frantically searching for her on the street. Upon seeing her, the police quickly understood that she was the child’s mother.
This childhood incident remains etched in Thurman’s memory, marking one of the scariest moments of her early life.
