UIDAI News: Aadhaar Card Will Soon Be Updated via Mobile — Here’s What You Need to Know

Updated: 21-06-2025, 02.21 PM

In a significant move toward further digitalisation and fraud prevention, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing to launch a new mobile app that will allow Aadhaar cardholders to update their details from home. The initiative aims to simplify the process for millions of citizens, eliminating the need to visit Aadhaar centers in person.

Aadhaar Updates to Go Mobile

According to recent media reports, UIDAI is working on a mobile-based system that will make it possible to update Aadhaar cards remotely. This app is expected to provide a wide range of services — including updating personal details, biometric data, and verification processes — all from the comfort of one’s home.

The new platform will also eliminate the need to submit photocopies of the Aadhaar card. Instead, users will be able to share Aadhaar details digitally through a QR code, with options to send either their full Aadhaar or a masked version to maintain privacy.

Expected Rollout Timeline

UIDAI plans to roll out this app by November 2025. Once launched, it will allow users to conveniently perform:

  • Aadhaar information updates

  • Biometric updates

  • Real-time verification

  • Electronic sharing of Aadhaar via QR code

Additionally, the system will integrate with government databases such as birth certificates, matriculation certificates, driving licenses, passports, PAN cards, PDS, and MNREGA records. This integration will streamline verification and help prevent the submission of duplicate documents.

Electricity Bill Database Integration

UIDAI is also planning to link electricity bill databases to the new Aadhaar update system. This would further simplify the verification process, ensuring a more robust and fraud-resistant mechanism.

Official Statement from UIDAI CEO

Speaking to The Times of India, UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar confirmed that the new mobile app is under active development. He revealed that of 1 lakh Aadhaar machines, around 2,000 units have already been upgraded with the new technology tool — signaling that the project is well underway.

A Major Convenience for Citizens

When fully implemented, this new Aadhaar update system will save citizens considerable time and effort by:

  • Eliminating the need to visit Aadhaar enrollment centers

  • Allowing Aadhaar updates from home

  • Reducing paperwork

  • Improving data accuracy and security

The move is in line with the Indian government’s broader push to drive digital governance and streamline public services for all citizens.
