Chhattisgarh CM Praises CBI for Successful Extradition of Mahadev Betting Scam Accused
Chhattisgarhs CM Vishnu Dev Sai commends CBI for extraditing Saurabh Chandrakar, a key figure in the Mahadev betting scam.

Raipur, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : Raipur’s Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has expressed his appreciation for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following the extradition of Saurabh Chandrakar, the main accused in the Mahadev betting scam. Chandrakar was brought back to India from Oman, a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
In a press briefing, CM Sai stated, “The CBI worked diligently to bring Saurabh Chandrakar back to our country. This achievement will provide vital information regarding the case. Congratulations to the CBI and other central agencies for this success.”
Chhattisgarh’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma had mentioned earlier that the CBI, with the assistance of Interpol, successfully facilitated the extradition of Chandrakar, who is expected to provide crucial insights during the interrogation.
The CBI has made strides in its investigation of the Mahadev app, which is linked to an illegal betting syndicate. A special CBI team successfully transported Chandrakar back to India, where he will be presented in a special court in Raipur.
Chandrakar is wanted in two CBI cases, for which charges have already been filed. Additionally, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also lodged a prosecution complaint against him. This extradition is viewed as a major accomplishment for India, reinforcing efforts to bring fugitives who commit crimes against Indian citizens from abroad to justice.
The CBI initiated its investigation into the Mahadev online betting operations at the request of the Chhattisgarh government. Findings revealed that the Mahadev app was one of the largest illegal online betting networks, primarily operated from outside India, facilitating bets on various sports and events. The operation employed a franchise-based network to connect with users and collect funds.
Further investigation uncovered that the illegal earnings were funneled through numerous fake bank accounts. After several transactions, the money was sent abroad via hawala. According to the CBI, a portion of these illicit funds was allegedly paid to certain government officials and employees as protection money, allowing the syndicate to operate without hindrance.
Chandrakar was apprehended by the Royal Oman Police based on a Red Corner Notice issued against him. Following this, the CBI and ED submitted a formal extradition request to the Omani government, supported by the evidence collected against him.
