Washington, July 15: The U.S. Central Command has stated that its ongoing actions against Iran aim to secure and protect the Strait of Hormuz. The United States is targeting Iran’s military capabilities, which have been used to threaten vessels passing through this critical waterway.
According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), multiple airstrikes against Iran commenced at 6 AM Eastern Time on Wednesday. The objective is to further weaken the Iranian military capabilities that have been employed to attack commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
These strikes are intended to diminish Iran’s ability to pose threats to international commercial vessels and civilian crews. The Strait of Hormuz is vital for global trade and energy supply. The attacks coincided with the U.S. resuming its blockade against vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas, effective at 4 PM Eastern Time.
Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, emphasized that this recent military action is a response to several attacks by Iran on commercial ships and neighboring Gulf nations. Over the past week, Iran has deliberately targeted seven commercial vessels in the region, resulting in approximately 12 civilian crew members being killed, missing, or injured. Additionally, the Iranian military has launched dozens of missiles and drones towards neighboring Gulf countries.
Admiral Cooper further stated, “The U.S. military holds Iran accountable for its unnecessary aggression, which endangers innocent lives.”
