Kolkata, May 23: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has arrived in India. His plane landed at Kolkata Airport this morning, where he was welcomed by U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gore. Rubio will participate in several events, including a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sergio Gore posted on ‘X’, stating, “Marco Rubio has reached Kolkata. This is his first visit to India. Later today, we will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Over the next few days, we will discuss trade, technology, defense, the Quad, and many other issues, making progress together!”
In another post, Gore expressed his excitement about Rubio’s visit, saying, “I am thrilled to welcome Marco Rubio to India! We have an ambitious agenda, including the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting, aimed at strengthening the India-U.S. partnership envisioned by President Donald J. Trump. We look forward to productive discussions and real progress together.”
Gore emphasized that Rubio’s visit is one of the most significant tours under the Trump 2.0 administration. He noted that India’s role is crucial for America’s success in the 21st century. The true test of strategic partnerships lies in how both sides resolve differences and expand common ground. From trade and technology to AI and supply chains, Washington and New Delhi stand to gain much more by collaborating than by remaining apart.
Notably, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is on a four-day visit to India. The State Department has released his itinerary, which indicates that Rubio will arrive in New Delhi on Saturday at 1:15 PM. He is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Modi at 2 PM. On Sunday, May 24, he will hold a bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar at Hyderabad House at 11:30 AM.
