Two Suspects Arrested After Police Encounter in Jhansi, One Injured

Jhansi, July 17: In a significant police operation in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, authorities have apprehended two suspects wanted in connection with a theft case following an encounter. The police recovered stolen goods and weapons from the suspects. During the exchange of fire, one suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment.

Priya Singh, the Circle Officer of Jhansi, reported that on July 16, the police engaged in a shootout in the Babina area, leading to the arrest of two habitual offenders linked to the theft. The incident occurred on the night of June 29-30 in the Bhail Chowki area under the Babina police station, where a formal complaint had been lodged.

Singh explained that police teams had been actively working to recover the stolen items and apprehend the suspects. On Thursday evening, the police received a tip-off regarding the suspects’ whereabouts. A local police team set a trap to capture them. When the police attempted to arrest the suspects, they opened fire with the intent to kill.

In response, the police team fired back. During this encounter, one suspect, identified as Kadir from Dholpur, Rajasthan, was shot in the leg. The second suspect, identified as Riyaz, hails from Urai in the Jalaun district.

Officer Priya Singh confirmed that both suspects were found in possession of gold and silver jewelry related to the Babina theft. Additionally, police recovered over 3,000 rupees in cash, a firearm, and ammunition. The injured suspect has been admitted to the hospital for treatment, and a case has been registered under the relevant sections of the law.
