Odisha to Showcase Investment Potential at India Chem 2026 in Mumbai

Odisha aims to attract investments in the chemical sector at India Chem 2026 in Mumbai, showcasing its industrial strengths.

Bhubaneswar, October 21 (Daily Kiran) : Odisha is set to highlight its investment potential in the chemical and petrochemical sectors at the upcoming ‘India Chem 2026’ event in Mumbai on October 22. The state’s primary goal is to attract new investments and solidify its position as an emerging industrial hub.

Chief Minister Mohan Chara Majhi will participate in the inaugural session and a CEO roundtable during his two-day visit, which will be chaired by Union Minister JP Nadda, responsible for chemicals, fertilizers, and health. This visit aims to bolster Odisha’s status as an industrial destination, particularly in the chemical and petrochemical sectors.

Odisha’s participation will showcase its industrial strength, ready infrastructure, progressive policies, and the growing ecosystem for chemical and petrochemical manufacturing. The event will serve as a crucial platform for Odisha to connect directly with industry leaders, present new investment opportunities, and explore partnerships for the next phase of industrial development.

During the visit, the Chief Minister is scheduled to hold meetings with key representatives from the chemical and petrochemical industries, engaging with over 20 major companies. Discussions will focus on potential investments, industrial expansion, downstream manufacturing, and opportunities to establish new industrial ventures in Odisha.

A highlight of the state’s participation will be a presentation on the coal gasification project, an emerging area for industrial opportunities in Odisha. The state may also announce plans for a dedicated, large-scale chemical industrial park aimed at strengthening its industrial ecosystem, promoting value addition, and attracting investments in chemicals, petrochemicals, plastics, and packaging sectors.

Odisha will join other states such as Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu, reflecting the growing importance of states in shaping India’s chemical and petrochemical manufacturing landscape. This event provides Odisha with the opportunity to demonstrate its capabilities and strengthen engagement with domestic and international stakeholders.

While Maharashtra, Gujarat, and other states have established themselves as leading chemical and petrochemical centers over the decades, Odisha is emerging as a prime investment destination in this sector, leveraging its rich resource base, industrial infrastructure, and supportive policy framework. The state’s established strengths in mining and metallurgy provide a solid foundation for expanding into downstream chemical and petrochemical industries, fostering value addition and attracting investments in high-value manufacturing.

As part of its efforts to diversify its industrial base, strengthen manufacturing value chains, and attract investments in related sectors like plastics and packaging, the chemical and petrochemical sector is a priority for Odisha. The proposed industrial park is expected to create a conducive environment for industrial units, ancillary businesses, and integrated manufacturing activities.

In the past two years, Odisha has consistently strengthened its position as an emerging industrial destination by focusing on attracting investments, expediting project implementation, and creating job opportunities. In the chemical and petrochemical sector, the state has attracted 56 companies, with proposed investments amounting to ₹1,93,087.94 crores and the potential to generate 1,12,324 jobs.

Under its industrial development initiatives, 27 projects in this sector have been launched or implemented, involving investments of ₹60,825.34 crores and the potential to create 35,351 jobs. These developments reflect the state government’s commitment to transforming investment commitments into industrial activities, enhancing manufacturing capabilities, and expanding employment opportunities.

Speaking about Odisha’s participation in India Chem 2026, Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries, Home, and Information & Public Relations Departments, stated that Odisha’s industrial foundation is robust. The state is now focusing on enhancing its presence in high-potential sectors like chemicals and petrochemicals. Participation in India Chem 2026 offers an opportunity to connect directly with leading companies, present the state’s investment opportunities, and seek partnerships for future growth. With its industrial infrastructure, progressive policies, and resource advantages, Odisha is working towards creating a competitive ecosystem for the chemical and petrochemical industries. The proposed dedicated large-scale chemical industrial park and focus on coal gasification will further strengthen this endeavor, opening new avenues for investment, value addition, and job creation.
