Two Major Suspects Arrested in Inter-State Drug Trafficking Network Linked to Manipur and Rajasthan
Authorities have arrested two key suspects in a drug trafficking network connecting Manipur and Rajasthan, intensifying their crackdown on illegal operations.

Imphal, October 25 (Daily Kiran) : Police in Imphal have made significant strides in dismantling an inter-state drug trafficking network linked to Manipur and Rajasthan by arresting two key suspects. The arrests were made as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the region.
The suspects, identified as Roman Rai, 21, and Amit Kumar Thapa, 35, were apprehended under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985. Rai was arrested in the Kangpokpi district, while Thapa was captured in the Bishnupur district with the assistance of local police forces.
Both suspects had been evading capture for some time and are believed to be crucial links in the trafficking network that connects illegal opium cultivators in Manipur with drug traffickers operating in Rajasthan. Previously, a non-bailable warrant had been issued against Thapa.
According to police, a total of seven individuals have been arrested in connection with three cases related to this network, including the two recently detained suspects, who are suspected to be the main suppliers.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and locate other members of the inter-state drug trafficking network, which has extensive connections reaching into Rajasthan. In recent years, security forces in Manipur have also destroyed numerous opium fields, as part of a broader initiative.
The campaign against illegal opium cultivation has involved the Army, Assam Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and Manipur Police, targeting the mountainous districts where this illicit activity is prevalent, particularly in six districts: Kangpokpi, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Chandel, Tengnoupal, and Senapati.
