Washington, July 17: President Donald Trump has accused China of conducting a large-scale campaign to interfere in the U.S. elections. He claims that Beijing aims to undermine his presidency and obtain records of millions of American voters. Trump stated that China is trying to conceal its activities within the U.S. intelligence community.
In a televised address from the White House, Trump announced the immediate release of intelligence documents related to election security. He asserted that these documents reveal shocking flaws in the U.S. electoral system and detail China’s alleged efforts to influence American politics over the years.
Trump stated, “The People’s Republic of China has made the largest breach in electoral data history, resulting in China illegally acquiring files of 220 million American voters.”
He claimed that the stolen data includes voters’ names, addresses, phone numbers, political party preferences, and other personal information that could be used for voter registration and other alleged illegal activities.
Trump alleged that U.S. intelligence agencies first discovered in 2020 that millions of voter records had been bought, stolen, or hacked by China in 18 states. However, he accused the agency of failing to inform him or Congress about this information.
He said, “They did not tell me or anyone else as president, and to our knowledge, they did not inform Congress either.”
The president also referenced a recently released CIA report that alleged Beijing attempted to influence both the 2018 midterm and the 2020 presidential elections.
According to Trump, an intelligence report indicated that the Chinese Communist Party’s strategy was to exploit all domestic and foreign elements against the U.S. president to reduce his votes and force him to resign or prevent his re-election.
He further claimed that another intelligence assessment concluded that China’s strategy aimed to diminish public trust in the U.S. president.
Trump mentioned that intelligence also accused Beijing of attempting to persuade business leaders to oppose the U.S. government by leveraging contacts with major American companies.
He added that records indicated the Chinese government sought to identify American journalists who criticized them and offered money to create more negative reports.
Trump stated, “The Chinese government wanted the U.S. president to lose the next election. Beijing opposed tariffs on Chinese goods and his national security policies.”
The president also alleged that 2020 FBI raw intelligence revealed attempts by Chinese activities to create illegal ballots for Joe Biden.
He claimed that dozens of CIA and National Security Agency reports related to China’s alleged electoral activities were concealed from his daily intelligence briefings.
Trump accused that an internal intelligence email acknowledged that officials deliberately altered the president’s daily briefing to hide information about Chinese activities related to the election.
He said he has ordered the Director of National Intelligence’s office, the Justice Department, FBI, and CIA to investigate why this information was allegedly concealed and to determine if criminal charges are warranted against those involved.
Trump announced that confidential records would be made publicly available through the White House website. He emphasized that the goal of releasing this material is not to undermine trust in the election but to regain it by addressing and swiftly rectifying vulnerabilities.
