Trinidad and Tobago PM Congratulates Modi on Historic Bengal Election Victory

Port of Spain, May 7: Kamla Persad-Bissessar, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, has extended her congratulations to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s historic electoral victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections.

On Wednesday, she took to the social media platform X to express her heartfelt congratulations. “The Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago sincerely congratulates Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP on their remarkable and historic electoral win in West Bengal,” she wrote.

Persad-Bissessar highlighted that this significant achievement showcases the strength of India’s democratic institutions and marks a crucial political milestone. It is the first time the BJP has won elections in West Bengal, one of India’s most populous states with over 100 million residents.

She emphasized that India stands proudly as the world’s largest democracy today. “India stands proudly as the world’s largest democracy, and Prime Minister Modi’s calm, disciplined, and strong leadership has maintained the trust of the Indian people during this period of significant global change and opportunity,” she stated.

The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago also mentioned that her government is looking forward to the official visit of India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, this week. This visit aims to strengthen the longstanding partnership between the two nations, which is based on shared democratic values, strong ties between their peoples, and a mutual commitment to progress, development, and international cooperation.

Dr. Jaishankar thanked Persad-Bissessar and expressed his eagerness to visit Trinidad and Tobago soon. “Thank you, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, for your warm welcome. I look forward to working with you and your team to further strengthen India-Trinidad and Tobago relations,” he said.
