Srinagar, October 17 (Daily Kiran): Mild tremors were felt across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday evening after a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck near the Afghanistan–Tajikistan border region, according to seismological reports.

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that the earthquake occurred around 5:45 PM, with its epicenter located at latitude 36.62°N and longitude 72.72°E, at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers.
Officials from the Meteorological Department in Kashmir confirmed that the tremors were felt across multiple areas of the valley, prompting residents to rush out of their homes and offices in panic.
Fortunately, no casualties or damage to property were reported immediately after the quake. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, and no aftershocks have been reported so far.
