Jaipur, August 9: Five individuals have been arrested in connection with a treasure discovered during the demolition of an old haveli in Tripoliya Bazaar, Jaipur. The police recovered 66.4 kilograms of silver from the suspects. Investigations are ongoing to locate other valuable items and potential accomplices.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Karan Sharma, the demolition of the old haveli at House No. 630 on Vidyadhar Ka Rasta was part of new construction efforts. A report was filed at the Manak Chowk police station on July 15, 2026.
During the demolition, a worker allegedly found valuable items hidden within the old structure and debris. Instead of informing the property owner, he reportedly shared the discovery with his associates.
The police investigation revealed that the accused had obtained 10 to 15 silver ingots weighing approximately 40 to 45 kilograms, along with old gold and silver coins and other precious items. Authorities suspect that this haul included between 8,000 to 10,000 ancient silver coins and additional valuables.
The main suspect has been identified as Mahesh Malhotra, also known as Chhotu. He allegedly conspired with his associates to divide the valuable items. The police grew suspicious when they noticed sudden changes in the suspects’ financial status and lifestyle.
According to police reports, the accused, who typically earned a modest wage, began spending extravagantly, indicating a shift in their living conditions. As the incident occurred nearly ten months ago, no CCTV footage was available, and the haveli had been completely demolished.
The Manak Chowk police and the District Special Team of Jaipur North advanced their investigation using technical analysis, call detail records, information from informants, and surveillance of the suspects. They also examined mobile records and the activities of the accused.
Following the investigation, police arrested Mahesh Malhotra (46), Jagdish Rajoria (51), Omprakash Khinchi (54), Rajni Malhotra (36), and Anuj Arora (28). Four of the suspects are residents of the Mandi Khatikaan area in Ramganj, while Anuj Arora hails from Lakshminarayanpuri, Ramganj.
The police have seized 66.4 kilograms of silver from the suspects. Currently, all accused are being interrogated as authorities work to determine the whereabouts of the remaining valuables and whether other individuals were involved in this alleged theft. The investigation is ongoing.
