Transformative Water Mission Brings Clean Drinking Water to Tumakuru Homes
The Jal Jeevan Mission has revolutionized access to clean drinking water in Tumakuru, enhancing daily life for residents.

Tumakuru, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : The Jal Jeevan Mission, initiated by the central government, has significantly improved access to clean drinking water in most villages of Tumakuru district. Residents in the Maidala Gram Panchayat exemplify this progress, enjoying safe drinking water directly from taps, safeguarding them from the dangers of contaminated sources.
An overhead water tank has been constructed in the village, ensuring that clean water reaches every household through a controlled supply network. Beneficiary Pramila shared her experience, highlighting the drastic change in their daily lives. “Before the Jal Jeevan Mission, we had to walk long distances to fetch sweet drinking water from borewells or open wells,” she recalled. “Now, with the overhead tank and the mission’s implementation, water flows directly to our door at least once a day, either in the morning or evening.”
Pramila noted that prior to the project, they relied on lake water for washing clothes, which was often contaminated and caused numerous issues. The introduction of the Jal Jeevan Mission has brought clean and safe water directly to their home taps.
She further explained the burdens of the past, when fetching water meant carrying heavy pots on their heads. “The overhead tank system was established, and then the government launched the Jal Jeevan Mission. Now, we receive regular water supply, which has been incredibly helpful for everyone.”
Narasimhamurthy, another resident, expressed gratitude for the improved infrastructure. “We now have tap water delivered directly to our homes under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Previously, we had to rely on hand-pumped borewells, lakes, and open wells for our water needs. Since this mission was implemented, it has been extremely beneficial for us. The Modi government’s initiative has greatly eased our lives.”
Nanjundamurthy, also a beneficiary, confirmed that pipelines have been laid, and water is now flowing into their homes without any hassle. “This water comes from the Jal Jeevan Mission. Before, we had to draw water from lakes and ponds or use hand pumps. Now, with the mission in place, it has become very useful for us,” he stated.
He emphasized that the ease of accessing water means they can now draw it straight from the overhead tank into their home storage. “We used to struggle to bring water from borewells. Thanks to this initiative, our lives have improved significantly.”
