Ahmedabad, July 11: A tragic road accident in Gujarat’s Junagadh district on Saturday resulted in the deaths of four family members, while four others sustained injuries. The incident occurred near Majewadi village on the four-lane road when the family’s Ertiga car collided with a truck parked by the roadside.
Two of the injured individuals are reported to be in critical condition, while a child in the car miraculously escaped unharmed.
Initial reports indicate that the family from Tharad taluka in Banaskantha district was en route to Somnath for a ritual immersion. Their vehicle crashed into the back of the truck on the new bypass highway near Majewadi village.
The impact was so severe that the front of the car was completely destroyed. Four individuals died at the scene, and four others were seriously injured.
Upon receiving news of the accident, local police and a 108 ambulance service team arrived promptly to initiate rescue operations. The injured were provided with first aid and subsequently admitted to Junagadh Civil Hospital. According to officials, the condition of two of the injured remains critical.
Authorities have removed the bodies from the wrecked car and sent them to Junagadh Civil Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
A police officer confirmed that a case has been registered regarding the accident, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances under which the truck was parked and the actual cause of the collision.
The incident has left the families of the deceased in mourning. The administration has informed the relatives about the tragedy, and the investigation is ongoing.
It is noteworthy that road accidents in Gujarat have become a significant concern. Reports indicate that between 2021 and 2025, the state witnessed 79,054 road accidents, resulting in 38,530 fatalities. The year 2022 recorded the highest number of deaths, while 2025 saw the most accidents, totaling 56,100.
