Raipur, April 19: A tragic incident occurred at the Vedanta Power Plant in Singhitrai village, Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district, where another worker from Jharkhand succumbed to injuries sustained in a boiler explosion. The deceased has been identified as Manish Kumar. Following the unfortunate event on April 14, the death toll has now risen to 24.
A total of 36 workers were severely burned in the explosion. Reports indicate that the condition of the remaining three injured workers remains critical. Authorities have assured that all injured laborers are receiving the best possible medical care, and support is being provided to the families of the deceased.
Currently, around 12 injured workers are undergoing treatment. The explosion occurred in a high-pressure steam pipe that transports steam from the boiler to the turbine.
An initial investigation by the chief boiler inspector has revealed potential deficiencies, including excessive fuel accumulation, which may have led to increased pressure.
The administration and central agencies have expedited the investigation. An eight-member team from the Central Industrial Security Force arrived at the plant on April 18 to examine the production logbook from the past 14 days. The team also gathered information about the frequency of technical failures in the previous month.
Sources indicate that the plant experienced several technical issues over the past year, including a brief malfunction just ten days before the accident. The investigation team has collected evidence from the site and has questioned management, staff, and officials. The administration stated that the exact causes will be determined only after the final report is submitted.
This incident has raised serious concerns about industrial safety and maintenance procedures in the region. Various agencies are working to ascertain the details of the incident and investigate any lapses that may have contributed to this tragedy. The investigation is expected to recommend stringent preventive measures to avoid such accidents in the future.
