New Delhi, April 21: A devastating explosion occurred on Tuesday at a fireworks manufacturing unit in the Mundathikode area of Thrissur district, Kerala. The incident resulted in the tragic loss of 12 lives, with several others sustaining injuries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the event and announced compensation for the victims. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has instructed all government departments to remain on high alert.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) shared a message on the social media platform ‘X’, where Prime Minister Modi conveyed his condolences. He stated, “I am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of life and property due to the accident at a fireworks factory in Thrissur, Kerala. My sympathies are with the families of the deceased, and I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
In addition, the Prime Minister announced compensation for the victims and their families. According to the information provided by the PMO, each family of the deceased will receive ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), while the injured will be compensated with ₹50,000.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed all government departments to be fully prepared to provide medical assistance following the explosion in Thrissur. He spoke with the Chief Secretary to review the situation and instructed that, if necessary, specialist doctors from outside the state should be called in to treat the burn victims.
The Chief Minister also expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. A rescue operation is ongoing under a special monitoring system, coordinated by the police, fire and rescue, health, revenue, and disaster management departments.
Congress MP and General Secretary K.C. Venugopal also expressed his grief over the incident. He posted on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “I am shocked to hear about the explosion at the fireworks factory in Thrissur, which occurred just days before the Pooram festival. I am deeply saddened by the news of multiple fatalities. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.”
He further urged the government to make every possible effort for rescue operations and to ensure that all injured receive necessary medical assistance as quickly as possible.
