Kolkata, April 21: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has made serious allegations against central forces ahead of the West Bengal assembly elections. TMC spokespersons Riju Dutta and Kunal Ghosh held a press conference in Kolkata on Tuesday, claiming that central paramilitary forces are allegedly urging people to vote for the BJP.
Riju Dutta stated, “BJP leaders repeatedly label the opposition as anti-women, but the reality is that they are using paramilitary forces like their own cadre. This is disrespectful to the soldiers. While 29,000 soldiers are deployed in Manipur, where the situation is deteriorating, 250,000 soldiers have been sent to West Bengal for the elections.”
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh remarked, “The actions of the paramilitary forces reflect a panicked response. They show no respect or connection to the people of Bengal. They are trying to seize Bengal through backdoor tactics.”
Ghosh also launched a sharp attack on the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) summons to former TMC MP Nusrat Jahan. He said, “This is BJP’s prepared list. They are trying to harass TMC by misusing agencies for their convenience, but TMC’s roots are very strong; we will not be intimidated.”
He further added, “Consider the timing of the ED summons. The law will take its course, but timing is crucial. Investigations have been ongoing for several years, yet such activities increase every time elections approach.”
TMC minister Shashi Panja demanded a firm stance from the Election Commission of India (ECI). She stated, “The ECI must pay attention to this matter. They need to send a stronger message that they are serious about maintaining law and order. There have been repeated calls to the CEO office and ECI to curb inflammatory speeches, but the situation remains unchanged.”
TMC leaders have accused the BJP of trying to expand its influence in Bengal by misusing central agencies and forces.
