Tragic Accident Claims Life of 69-Year-Old in Pune Construction Site Fall

A 69-year-old man fell into a deep pit at a construction site in Pune, leading to his tragic death. The incident raises safety concerns.

Pune, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic incident occurred in Pune’s Yerwada area when a 69-year-old man fell into a pit dug by the Pune Municipal Corporation for a drainage project. The accident happened on October 17 around 12:30 PM, near the Chitra Chowk vegetable market. The victim has been identified as Pradeep Pardeshi, a resident of Yerwada.

According to police reports, Pardeshi was walking on the road when he was allegedly struck by an auto-rickshaw. This collision caused him to lose his balance and fall into the 8 to 10-foot deep excavation. Senior Inspector Yuvraj Nandre from the Lakshmi Nagar police station stated that the drainage line work had been ongoing at that location for the past 15 days.

Nandre noted that barricades had been erected around the excavation site as a precautionary measure. After the fall, Pardeshi was rushed to Shubhankar Hospital in Yerwada, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later that evening.

The police received information about the incident through a medical-legal case report on the morning of October 18. Initially, it was reported that a vehicle had slipped into the pit, resulting in a person’s death. After conducting inquiries, police contacted the victim’s family for more details about the incident.

Nandre mentioned that the family intends to file a formal complaint at the police station after the funeral. As of now, no official complaint has been lodged. He added that further action would be taken once the family registers their complaint.

This incident has once again highlighted the need for enhanced safety measures at road excavation sites during ongoing civic infrastructure projects.
