New Delhi, April 20: A significant accident occurred in the Bawana area of New Delhi on Monday afternoon when a slab at an under-construction factory suddenly collapsed. Several workers were trapped under the debris, with three confirmed injuries.
Rescue operations are underway, with teams from the NDRF, Delhi Fire Service, and local police on-site.
According to reports, the incident happened while workers were pouring concrete for the basement slab. Suddenly, the entire slab gave way, burying the workers beneath it. Chaos ensued as nearby residents rushed to assist in the rescue efforts.
Eyewitness Zeeshan recounted that around 1:15 PM, a loud noise was heard. Upon rushing to the scene, they found the entire slab had collapsed. They managed to pull out two or three individuals, but one person was completely trapped, taking about an hour and a half to rescue. Zeeshan noted that initial investigations suggest improper setting may have led to the accident.
Another witness attributed the incident to contractor negligence. They mentioned that many workers were on lunch break at the time, which likely prevented a higher casualty count.
All injured workers have been promptly admitted to a nearby hospital. One is reported to be in serious condition, while others sustained minor injuries. Upon receiving news of the incident, NDRF, Delhi Fire Service, and local police quickly arrived at the scene.
Preliminary assessments indicate that negligence in construction practices may have caused the accident. The police have initiated an investigation, and local authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
