Traditional Dhol-Tasha Performance Captivates Devotees at Bhagyalakshmi Temple in Hyderabad
A vibrant Dhol-Tasha performance marked Ashtami at Bhagyalakshmi Temple, attracting many devotees in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : The Bhagyalakshmi Temple in Hyderabad hosted a lively Dhol-Tasha performance on the occasion of Ashtami, organized by the city’s first Marathi Dhol-Tasha group, Mitrangan Pathak. This event, held near the historic Charminar, drew attention with its energetic rhythms and vibrant atmosphere.
During the performance, prayers were offered for the prosperity of the nation, the welfare of farmers, and peace for all humanity. The temple, dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, is a small but significant Hindu shrine located adjacent to the southeastern minaret of the 16th-century Charminar.
The Dhol-Tasha service is a spirited devotional ritual typically performed by enthusiastic youth groups during the Navratri festival. Ashtami, the eighth day of Sharadiya Navratri, sees an increase in religious fervor at the temple. In the evening, the drummers come together to create an exhilarating soundscape, utilizing traditional heavy drums and loud cymbals, fostering a lively spiritual environment.
The temple hosts grand Maha Aarti and Havan ceremonies during Navratri, but the evening of Ashtami is especially notable as a large number of devotees flock to the old city. The rhythmic beats of the drums enhance the temple’s decor, which is adorned with flowers and lights reaching heights of 30 to 50 feet during the festivities.
As the evening Aarti approaches, the area around Charminar becomes bustling with activity, prompting visitors to arrive early to witness the Dhol-Tasha performance or the Maha Aarti. Mitrangan Dhol-Tasha Pathak, established 11 years ago, is known as Hyderabad’s first and most popular traditional Maharashtrian Dhol-Tasha group.
